Time passes by really fast and just like that, it’s warmer out. But not only that, you’re also just a few weeks away from the bikini season! If at this point you feel that time has sneaked up on you, no need to panic–it isn’t too late to get that bikini-ready body this summer and get rid of those stretch marks that make you cringe!
Now you’ve probably already tried creams and other over-the-counter stretch mark treatments without any luck. And while these at-home remedies rarely work, the good news is that right here in Ottawa, we offer a highly effective new, state-of-the-art stretch mark reduction treatment that works!
It’s common for men and woman to experience stretch marks across many areas of the body. Unfortunately stretch marks occur because the middle layer of skin has poor elasticity, which some individuals are more prone to experience. Once the skin in stretched during pregnancy, or after a large amount of weight is lost quickly, the skin can’t regain its normal shape and a stretch mark is created. The breakdown of dermal collagen creates a mark that is shiny with silver streaks over time. However, stretch marks can also be reddish or purplish toned, depending on the person’s skin color.
Our patented micro-needling system is a non-surgical skin tightening treatment used for a number of common skin ailments, such as pigmentation issues, fine lines, cellulite, acne scars, sagging skin, and yes…even those pesky stretch marks!
Considered a newer treatment option, micro-needling is an innovative approach that is very effective in reducing stretch marks. And while individual results will vary, we have seen dramatic improvements.
Using a micro-needling process, we creates micro-injuries in the skin which allows for controlled induction of the skin’s self-repair process. Scar tissue, including stretch marks, are healed and repaired by the body’s own collagen that is automatically triggered as a result of the micro-needling process.
Depending on the area treated, micro-needling takes under an hour and the patient experiences no down time. Over the next few days, the treatment area may experience some redness while the healing process begins. The full benefits of the treatment are seen within four to six weeks as collagen production increases, but some patients report seeing immediate results after treatment.
Micro-needling is appropriate for most all skin types. Even patients with darker skin tones or sensitive skin tolerate the micro-needling treatment well.

Spring is finally here! Time to celebrate! But wait, what about that dry, itchy, flakey skin? After layering on heavy creams, serums and oils to replenish your skin over the dreary winter nights, it’s time to prep your face for sunnier days ahead!
So how do we transition our skin care routine for Spring? Here are 8 great ways to do just that so you can get healthy, gorgeous skin just in time for summer!
1. Swap your Moisturizer for a lighter one.
Try a water-based formula that will do the trick and keep your face feeling lighter and brighter.
2. Use an SPF.
Now that the cold wintery days are behind us, we are spending more time outdoors. So it’s important to use an SPF – separate from your moisturizer – that’s at least SPF 25 50tto protect your face from sun damage.
When our skin is extra dry, it’s beneficial to exfoliate all that dead skin and unclogblock your pores for a fresher look.
4. Throw out expired make-up and moisturizers.
Take a look through your make-up bag and get rid of anything that is 6-months old (or older). Old products can host a buildup of bacteria, leading to clogged pores and dull skin.
5. Replace your heavy winter moisturizer with a light tinted foundation.
It makes for a perfect substitute that will give you a springtime glow!
6. Increase your water intake.
Water really does wonders for your skin. The more water you drink, the easier it will be to keep your skin from getting dry and flakey.
7. Eat seasonally.
Now that local fresh fruits and veggies are back in the grocery stores and tasting even better, change up your diet to include lettuce, broccoli, grapefruit, carrots, apples, and watermelon. Studies have found that citrus fruits are especially helpful for skin health.
8. Stay active.
Get into a routine of hitting the gym, going for a walk or trying a new yoga class. Exercise increases blood flow, which helps maintain healthy skin cells. Happy skin cells = happy skin!
After months of alternating between hot, dry indoor air and the harsh cold outside, your skin is definitely ready for a shift in seasonal skin care. With these eight tips, you can ensure your skin will feel rejuvenated and healthy – ready for sunnier days ahead!

Is your Teenager Skin-Ready for March Break?
Heading into March break can be a busy time for parents and families. If you’re lucky enough, you will be heading down south for some ‘fun in the sun’ with a relaxing week off from school. But what about your teenager’s acne?
For teenagers, dealing with acne is particularly difficult. With an increasing trend in selfies in today’s digital world, it’s easy to see how a teen’s self-confidence can plummet as they deal with skin problems and embarrassing acne.
And they are not alone. More than 85% of teenagers have this common skin problem, which is marked by clogged pores (whiteheads, blackheads), painful pimples, and, sometimes, hard, deep lumps on the face, neck, shoulders, chest, back, and upper arms.
Acne can affect all skin types at any age and may be caused by a multitude of factors including hormones, stress, environment, and genetics. Fortunately, many types of acne are successfully treated by using a specifically formulated cleansing routine and treatments. There is rarely a “quick fix” for acne that doesn¹t compromise the overall, long term health of the skin or body, but these 10 tips can help your teen achieve clear, healthy skin.
1. Reduce Stress Levels
Stress causes many ailments especially fluctuating hormone levels in teens. So the best way to tackle this is try to reduce your teen’s stress levels. Encourage them to set aside time each day to relax and do something fun, whether that’s reading, listening to music, going for a walk, or playing a video game.
2. Wash Your Face (But Not Too Much!)
Acne is commonly caused by blocked pores an increase in oil production. In order to reduce the number of blocked pores, it is important to wash your face regularly with a mild cleanser. Just remember that washing your face too often as you strip away the good oils too – so keep it to twice-a-day regime.
3. Skin Care Products
Always read the label and look for products that say oil-free, non-comedogenic, or non-acnegenic. You will also want to look for products that contain benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid.
Keep your teen hydrated all day long as water can help hydrate the skin and flush out toxins in the body.
5. Clean your Cosmetic Brushes
Make sure your teen washes or uses new brushes after a bad breakout. The oils and reside can clog pores and lead to even bigger acne problems. Also, try to discourage your teen to cover up the pimples and scars with foundations and concealers. Unfortunately, many of these products contain ingredients which can actually lead to more breakouts. Consider using Mineral-based foundations.
Make sure your teen is getting a healthy range of fruits and vegetables to help process and flush toxins out of the body. A diet rich on fats and oil are not the best when it comes to getting rid of acne.
7. Change and Wash Bedding Regularly and Towels Too!
Get your teen to wash his or her bedding at least once a week (especially pillows) as the fabrics absorb the oils and bacteria on the skin. As well, ensure your teen dries their face off with fresh, clean towels as not to transfer oils and dirt back onto their face.
8. Avoid Sticky Gel-based Hair Products
Your teen should avoid using sticky, gel-based hair products wherever possible, particularly pomades and oils. When using hairsprays, make sure your teen shields their face or washes off any of the spray right away.
9. Resist The Urge to Pick and Touch
Resist the urge to touch or pick at acne at school and at home. Let your teen’s skin heal naturally. If blackheads or pimples need to be removed, have a professional properly prepare, extract and disinfect the skin reducing inflammation and the potential for scarring.
10. Don’t Let Your Teen Suffer Unnecessarily
Acne can be damaging to anyone’s self-esteem and is particularly difficult for teenagers. A long-term approach will allow your teen’s skin to heal and stay breakout-free without harsh chemicals and irritants.
At Nakota Day Spa, we offer exceptional results to help treat your teen’s acne and give them the confidence they need to excel in school, with their friends and in life. Contact us today for a free skin assessment!
